Kruger National Park is a massive wildlife reserve in northeastern South Africa, famous for its Big Five sightings and self-drive safari routes. Its subtropical climate has mild, dry winters (65-85 degrees F or 18-29 degrees C) that make it ideal for spotting animals like elephants and lions near waterholes, and hot, humid summers (75-95 degrees F or 24-35 degrees C) that bring lush scenery and excellent birdwatching. The southern area around Lower Sabie offers the best game viewing for beginners, while the northern region is quieter and great for spotting rare birds like the Pel's fishing owl; the dry months from May to September are the top time to visit for predator sightings.
